why do graffiti artists do graffiti? art? pride? vandalism?…etc…?

by banksy on January 5, 2010

this is a subtopic for my project:
"Should graffiti artists be allowed to express themselves"

it would be very helpful if you are a graffiti artists yourself or know one (in person).

- you do not have to restrict your answers to those written above.

I do some grafitti. My reasons are that it is a great way to express myself and I love everything about art. I’m not really into the vandlaism part. I do it on local grafitti walls(where it is allowed) and on sheets of plywood at my own house. I don’t want to get arrested for just expressing myself so i keep in control over it.
Its a great way to express yourself because you can put anything you want up there whether its a name, phrase, cartoonish, characters, or just colors. Im more into the abstract art sense of it. I usually put up phrases with artistic lettering and backrounds. It helps me and the other people i know escape. Its like someone who likes to draw on paper or write poems, you do it because it makes you happy, because it puts you in a place where you can express yourself, and there is close to nothing wrong.

same reason people do any job-they love it and their good at it :)
I think they generally think of it as a type of art anyway

vandalism is the only answer that fits. If they can afford spray paint, then they can afford $6 for a sheet of drywall. they could then show or sell it as art or for pride. they vandalize the property of others because they are small time criminals, with no respect for others. they are punks and should be punched in the face.
