i love the guy myself.
Not in a gay way……. in a ‘I can appreciate where he’s coming from’ way.
(but then Ive always understood and grasped the abstract quite easily)

Buddha – Why is he a menace? Because he produces work that you can’t understand?

Just below me, Dave.
He’s an absolute menace, so I would have to say nowhere. He produces work on other people’s property. He is a law breaker.
Tony Banks wasn`t much of a politician was he, good for a laugh, one of the boys at the pub, always good for a soundbite on Channel 4 news but was not really cabinet material.
I don’t think he’s that good. I can’t claim to be a member of the art cognoscenti, but even I can see that his ideas are not all that challenging.
His work reminds me of the stencil of a soldier falling shot with the word ‘why’ next to it, which I thought was profound when I saw it in the school sixth from centre aged 16. But now I’d say like, ‘yeah, you tell me why or why not this would happen, you idealist, pot smoking hippie layabouts.’
Banksy is nothing extraordinary, every generation produces it anarchical rebel artist with a cause or a particular bent of uniqueness, Banksy has forged this ‘art for art sake’ or ‘the common man artist’ brand and his anonymity contributes to this imagining. Admittedly, some of his works are visually stimulating and induces social representation and commentary but in truth he is one sentence away from being a cliche in our otherwise pretentious cultural Art identities.
Fair do to the man as he fills a much needed contemporary niche and has indeed brought Art to the masses, but Titan, Blake or even Hockney,s greatness – no chance.
i like his stuff-i see him as more of a social commentator than an artist-he doesn’t have anything strikingly original to say but it’s his anarchic way that draws attention. It’s a kind of visual soundbite-which suits the modern age where we seem to have lost the skills of concentration and reflection.-he’s a top guy.—I’d love to go to the Bristol exhibition
With our country going down the toilet we need a bit of light relief.Personally I think he’s a genius.
lower than whale sh1te .
Banksy…….. Now there’s an interesting subject for discussion. My opinion (and that is all it is) is that the man is taking the complete and utter piss out of all those snob nosed, hyper analytical, wasters who are so busy trying to make sense of his RUBBISH that they never see the reality of their own meaningless lives ticking down to zero. They need to stop staring, stop wasting time and start living. Why stand staring at a something that is meaningless, when you could be experiencing LIFE not art. Maybe, in that context, Banksy is a Genius. Personally, I think he’s having a laugh!!!!! In fact, if you listen really carefully, you will probably hear him laughing himself all the way to his Private Bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a graffiti artist he is fantastic. Very very talented and he should be employed to brighten up a lot of derelict buildings and inner city’s.
I’d say pretty high. In terms of Bristol he’s definitely up there with Brunel. His work is streaks ahead of any of the other shite you usually see plastered round the city. The reactions his work evokes is incredible- I can’t think of any other art work that creates so much excitement just from people spotting it. The fact people will drop everything and spend thousands of pounds at the last minute just for a chance to get to one of his secret events just shows how phenomenal his reputation is. His ability to completely alter the way people think with a thought provoking stencil is legendary
